Who We Are
Troop XV is a Scouts BSA troop based in Sherman, TX. Our troop is one of the oldest in the area, at over 20 years old. Since our beginning, our troop has had over 100 Eagle Scouts, and influenced hundreds more boys in the Grayson County area. Our current Scoutmaster is Robert Williams, and our current SPL is Levi Ullah. Although Scouts BSA now allows female scouts, troops are not yet co-ed, and our troop is a boys-only troop.
What We Do
Troop XV is dedicated to bringing the full scouting experience to as many boys as possible. Because of this, we have a wide range of activities that appeal to scouts of any age.
Weekly Meetings – Our Troop holds weekly meetings every Tuesday night. During these meetings, scouts can work on rank advancement with their merit badge counselors. We usually have fun, interactive skill instruction, sometimes by special guests. At the end of each meeting, we have patrol meetings, and play a game.
Monthly Activities – Every month, the Troop XV scouts have an activity. This is usually a campout, backpacking trip, boating trip, or similar outdoor activity, but we also host other activities such as rock climbing or a lock-in. These fun activities are enjoyed by every scout in every patrol. They are also usually opening to visiting potential scouts who want to see what we’re all about.
High Adventure/Summer Camp – If you love camping and adventuring, we’re the troop for you! Our troop attends Summer Camp annually, an amazing one-week adventure where scouts can swim, fish, hike, boat, and learn. For most scouts, this is the highlight of their scouting experience. We don’t just go to Summer Camp, though. We send crews age 14 or older on high adventure trips, such as Swamp Base (a week long, 60 mile canoe trip through the Louisiana Swamps), Philmont (a two week, 50+ mile backpacking trip through the mountains in New Mexico), and anywhere else our scouts are interested in attending.
Parents – Don’t worry! There is adequate adult supervision at all of our troop events, and we comply with the Guide to Safe Scouting to make sure all of our scouts stay safe.
Our Patrols
Like most Scout troops, Troop XV is boy-led, meaning the scouts plan and carry out their own meetings and events. Within the troop, there is a Senior Patrol Leader who leads the Patrol Leaders, who then lead their respective patrols. The Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters are the adult leaders, who supervise and guide the youth leaders to ensure a smooth and safe experience. Upon joining the troop, each scout is placed into a patrol. Each patrol contains some more experienced scouts to help the younger ones along their way.
Honeybadgers
The Honeybadgers are best known for their easygoing attitude, cleanliness, and cooking. They enjoy making way too much food for their patrol to eat alone, and attempting to force the leftovers onto fellow patrols. Their favorite pastime is sitting around the campfire and telling stories unreasonably late at night.
Vipers
The Vipers are best known for their discipline, leadership, and knowledge. They specialize in winning the Scoutmaster’s Challenge at weekly troop meetings. They enjoy tying knots, teaching first years, and cooking campout fried chicken.
Falcons
The Falcons are best known for their organization and exotic cooking. They have a large variety of scouts, the largest reaching a daunting height of 6’4″ and the smallest barely over 5′. The Falcons have excellent comradery, working together through their various tasks.
Titans
The Titans are best known for their energy and imagination. Whether it’s a presentation at a troop meeting or a boating excursion at summer camp, every event is a new adventure, and usually involves imaginary zombies. They enjoy playing games, eating snacks, and burning things.
